How to Donate a Sleeper Sofa in MA

Donating a sleeper sofa is a great way to help a less fortunate family. By doing this, you are providing someone in your community with a sofa, but more importantly, a bed to sleep on. This also will benefit you by providing you with a tax deduction at the end of the year. The only questions you may have are: who do I donate it to and how am I going to get it there? There are actually a few different charities in Massachusetts that will come to your home or office to pick up your unwanted furniture.

  1. Donating a Sleeper Sofa

      Clean and vacuum your sleeper sofa. Carefully look it over to make sure there aren't stains or tears in the fabric.

      Contact the Salvation Army at 1-800-95-TRUCK to schedule a pick up. Make sure to call four to six weeks before you need your items removed to allow them enough time to assign the pickup. Another charity in Massachusetts that will come to your home to pick up your furniture is the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. To schedule a pick up, you can call them at (781) 595-7570. Keep in mind they will not pick up used furniture that is torn or stained.

      Remember to ask the driver for a letter of acknowledgment of the pick up. To use this donation as a tax deduction, you must be able to provide a letter of acknowledgment from the charity if the value of your contribution exceeds $250.
