How to Remove Water From a Foam Cushion

If you are worried that your furniture cushion may be ruined from the water seeping deep into the foam, know that you can save it as long as you tend to it immediately. Accidents happen, so just be glad it is water and not some other liquid. That's the good news; the bad news is that it will take a little time to fix the problem, but once you get the moisture out of the foam, the cushion will be as good as its original state.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Pull off a large wad of paper towels from the paper towel roll. Press them down directly onto the spill area. Keep pressing until the towels are saturated. Remove some more paper towels, and keep pressing down until the paper towels are nearly dry.

    • 2

Sprinkle some baking soda on the spill to help draw out some of the moisture and absorb any odor. Leave it on for a few minutes, and vacuum it up with a vacuum hose.

    • 3

Turn a hair dryer on high, and concentrate it on the damp area. Use a soft bath towel to rub the heat into the foam, but don't rub so hard that you tear the foam.

If you live in a warm dry climate, place a towel down and leave your cushion out in the direct sunlight until it is dry to the touch. Lay some dryer sheets on top of it so it will smell fresh when you return it to your couch or chair.

If you own a newer model dryer, put the cushion in the dryer on a gentle setting with low heat so it will not tear. Use dryer sheets, and return the cushion to your sofa if it feels dry to the touch. Place it near a space heater, and keep an eye on it as the heat absorbs the moisture. Return it to the sofa as soon as it feels dry.
