Barcalounger Leather Cleaning

The Barcalounger brand has become synonymous with comfort and furniture over the last few decades. Specializing in leather recliners that provide excellent style and comfort, Barcalounger has made itself a household name. Because leather can be delicate, knowing the proper cleaning techniques is key to keeping your Barcalounger furniture looking like new for years.
  1. General Cleaning

    • The most common cleaning need for Barcalounger leather is dusting. Even the most careful homeowner cannot prevent dust from settling on these inanimate objects. To remove dust, use the soft bristle attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Use only this attachment, because harsher suction power or sharp edges will scratch the leather.

Alternatively, you can also use dry dusters such as feather dusters or Swiffer pads. If these aren't available, dampen a clean, soft cloth with warm water and gently rub it across the surface. Dust will stick to the damp cloth.

Larger-scale cleanings will help to condition the leather. MrsCleanUSA.com suggests that you should clean and treat your leather furniture every three months. Mix one part white vinegar and two parts linseed oil to create a cleaner and conditioner. You can also simply mix warm water with a mild dish detergent such as Dawn or Ivory. Apply with a white, lint-free cloth, let it sit overnight and buff the next day to restore shine to the leather surface.

    Stain Removal

    • While general care and maintenance is relatively simple for Barcaloungers, stains can seem like nightmares. The best way to treat stains is to prevent them. As soon as a spill happens, blot as much of it up as you can with clean towels or paper towels.

If the stains do stick, try applying plain toothpaste or hairspray directly to the stained area. Wipe the residue away with a clean, damp cloth. This may take a number of applications before stains are completely removed. For ink stains, try using acetone nail polish.

Whenever you decide to use any cleaning solution on your Barcalounger, spot test it on an inconspicuous area of leather. This will giving you a warning if the cleaning solution will damage or discolor the leather surface.
