How to Paint an End Table Black

Painting furniture is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get the look of new furniture without the price tag of purchasing new furniture. At $20 or $30 a gallon as of March 2010, paint is a cheap option for updating an old or worn piece of furniture. With a fresh coat of paint, almost any piece of furniture can be instantly revived. If you have an end table with a worn finish, consider painting it. Black paint will dress up any end table, but before you begin you should know a few things about painting furniture.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the end table smooth, using a hand sander. Start with larger-grit sandpaper like 80 or 100 and work up to finer grits like 120.

    • 2

Clean the dust from the end table with a vacuum. Once most of the dust has been removed, remove the fine particles with a damp cloth. Wet the cloth, but do not soak it. Wipe the end table down; make sure that all of the dust has been removed.

    • 3

Apply a thin coat of gray tinted primer, using a paintbrush or spray primer. Apply the primer in two very thin coats, letting each dry between coatings. Cover the entire end table with the primer in preparation for painting. Allow the primer to dry completely.

Apply several thin coats of black latex paint, using a paintbrush. Allow each coat to dry before applying more paint. Give the end table several days to cure completely (up to a week) before use.
