How to Refurbish Leather Furniture

The correct methods and products can make leather furniture look like new. Topical soiling from touching, grease and mildew stains can usually be removed. Conditioning makes the leather look supple and should be done about every six months.

  • Saddle soap
  • Soft sponge
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Shoe polish in the appropriate color

  1. How to Refurbish Leather Upholstery

      Remove spots on leather upholstery with liquid leather cleaner. Rub the cleaner into the spot and let it dry. Buff with a soft cloth.

      To remove grease stains from leather upholstery, test the dry-cleaning fluid in an inconspicuous spot before using. If color-safe, rub the commercial dry-cleaning fluid on the leather until the spot is removed.

      Wipe petroleum jelly on mildew stains on leather upholstery.

      Wipe off the petroleum jelly to clean.

      Reapply petroleum jelly to the leather upholstery and leave on for 24 hours. Buff with a soft cloth.

      Clean the entire piece of leather furniture with a damp sponge and saddle soap. Rinse and squeeze the sponge and wipe the leather dry. Buff with a soft cloth.
