How to Clean Leather Couches With a Damp Cloth

Your leather couch looks gorgeous the day you buy it. Unfortunately, with use and over time, leather often shows signs of wear and distress. Read the care instructions for your leather furniture and only use products that will not harm the leather upholstery. If you do not have specific care instructions, maintain your furniture by cleaning leather couches with moist cloths and mild soap. Perform this basic cleaning often to help to keep the leather stain-free, shiny and supple.

Instructions

    • 1

Moisten three soft cloths with lukewarm water, and wring them out well so they are slightly damp.

    • 2

Rub one moistened cloth over the top of the bar of soap to apply a small amount of soap to this moist cloth. Leave the other two cloths moist with water only.

    • 3

Wipe a two-square foot or less area of the leather couch with the damp and soapy cloth to apply the soap to the leather.

    • 4

Wipe the same area of the leather couch with one other moist cloth to remove the soapy residue. Wipe the leather couch with the last moist cloth to remove any more traces of soap and soiling.

    • 5

Buff the leather couch with a dry cloth to shine it.

    • 6

Repeat steps 2 to 5 to clean the entire leather couch.
