DIY Loveseat

A frameless love seat is a versatile and fun addition to your library. It's comfortable to sit in, great for gamers and doubles as a guest bed. A couple of these funky pieces would make any basement into an envy-worthy rec room. The seat cushion described here is 5 feet long, 3 feet deep and 18 inches thick. The same principles could be used to make any size from a chair to a sofa.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut two 5 feet by 3 feet rectangles from the fabric, leaving a 1-inch seam allowance all around. Cut, piecing if necessary, a piece of fabric 16 feet long and 24 inches wide, leaving 1-inch seam allowance all around. These are for the base of your love seat.

    • 2

Sew the short ends of the strip together, making a circle. Pin the strip of fabric around the edge of one of the rectangles, right sides facing, and sew into place. Pin the the other side of the strip, right sides facing, and sew into place, leaving a 12-inch opening for turning and stuffing. Reinforce all seams with a second row of stitching. Turn this piece right side out.

    • 3

Cut, piecing if necessary, a 16.5-foot by 50-inch piece of fabric. Fold this in half lengthwise, right sides facing, so that you have a 16.5-foot by 25-inch piece. Pin and sew the long seam and one end seam. Reinforce with a second seam. Turn right side out.

    • 4

Stuff both pieces with shredded foam. Stuff firmly, but not over-stuffed.

    • 5

Fold the open seams in and pin in place. Hand stitch to secure.

    • 6

Sew the buttons evenly along the bottom inside edge of the long cushion. Sew loops of elastic in corresponding places along the bottom inside edge of the seat.

    • 7

To assemble the love seat, place the bottom cushion on the floor and wrap the long cushion around it to form the back and arms. Loop the elastic around the buttons to secure together.
