Studio Apartment Furniture Ideas

Smaller living spaces require carefully selecting furniture items which will maximize the square footage available. Modern furniture design provides many options for studio apartments which still reflect style and personality. Multifunctional pieces, such as wall beds, foldaway chairs and nesting tables, are just some of the various selections available.
  1. Furniture with Storage

    • Small spaces do not necessarily mean that owners have a small amount of possessions. Finding unique ways to create storage is one of the best ways to get rid of bulky furniture such as cabinets and dressers. Beds with drawers for clothes, coffee tables which open up to store blankets, and desks which have space to roll a file cabinet or set of chairs under are examples of pieces that multitask. Stool seating, which has a hollow center for storage, can function as both living room and dining room chairs.

    Beds

    • A wide variety of beds exist to allow a living room to transform into a bedroom at night. Day beds, sofa-sleepers and futons are all examples. In addition, Murphy beds fold up into the wall to provide more space in the daytime.

    Nesting Tables

    • Tables which can nest inside one another are a great way to provide extra surface space when needed. For entertaining, they provide extra space for appetizers and drinks or can be stashed away to accommodate more people.

    Bookshelves and Cabinetry

    • Whenever possible, the height of a room should be maximized if space is an issue. Bookshelves and kitchen and bathroom cabinetry can be designed to extend to the ceiling, providing more storage and utility space.

    Mirrors

    • Mirrors are a great way to make a small space larger. Placing a mirror on a wall gives the illusion that the space continues past that wall. Ideal spaces for mirrors are in narrow rooms or passageways, above a large table or couch and opposite a window to reflect light.

    Foldaways

    • Additional tables and chairs which can foldaway for easy storage can be housed under beds, in closets or behind doors for easy (yet out of the way) access. Furniture which can foldaway has been updated to reflect a more modern look rather than reminding us of the days of TV trays.
