How to Build an Easy Accent Table

Create an easy-to-build and stunning accent table by combining a slab of fieldstone slate with a plaster pedestal. This dramatic combination creates a striking and durable accent table in a contemporary or traditional setting. The pedestals and the slate can be found at garden centers. A tall pedestal and slab becomes an accent table for the foyer or living room, a perfect spot for a potted plant or a lamp. Use two pedestals and a longer piece of slate for a coffee table. The weatherproof table also is a beautiful and natural-looking addition to a backyard patio.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the appropriate plaster pedestal for your accent table. A table that could serve as a plant or lamp stand could be up to 30 inches high. A coffee table should be approximately 16 to 18 inches high.

    • 2

Choose an appropriate slab of state for the table. For an accent table, 22 inches by 22 inches works well. For a coffee table, 39 inches by 22 inches is a good size.

    • 3

Cut the felt to the appropriate size of the pedestal base and glue it to the bottom of the base to protect your floor.

    • 4

Cut the felt to an appropriate size that will fit between the pedestal and the slate slab. The felt will cushion and stabilize the tabletop. Clean your fieldstone slab and plaster pedestal with a damp rag and water to maintain the table's natural appearance.
