How to Measure Covers for Recliners

Slipcovers have the potential to transform your recliner. Whether you want to cover it because the upholstery fabric is torn or stained, or you simply want a new look for your room, slipcovers can make it appear as if you purchased a brand new recliner. Measuring your recliner correctly is the best way to ensure the perfect fit for a slipcover. They come in solid or patterned fabrics and in many different textures that will enhance the decor of your room.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that you have a paper and writing instrument to jot down all measurements so that you will be able to purchase the correct size of slipcover for your recliner.

    • 2

Measure the circumference of the seat back, as opposed to the width. Start with your tape measure in the center of the front of the back rest, directly over the arm rests. Bring it all the way around the back rest, encircling the recliner and ending up where the tape measure begins.

    • 3

Measure the arm rests at the widest portion.

    • 4

Measure the width of the seat cushion across the widest area. If you have a T-style seat cushion, which overlap the ends of the armrests, instead of a square box cushion, make sure that you measure the front and widest portion.

    • 5

Walk around to the back of the chair and measure the height. You should begin at the floor and measure all the way up to the top of the seat back.

    • 6

Measure the width of the chair from the back area at the widest portion.
