Wipe the furniture clean with ammonia based cleaner. Dip a toothbrush into the cleaner and scrub the small crevices. Wipe the furniture down with a clean, damp rag.
Sand the furniture with medium grit sandpaper. If there is an existing coat of paint on the furniture, keep sanding until you have stripped the furniture to almost bare wood.
Paint the furniture with a base color of paint. Let the paint dry.
Rub the furniture with paste wax in the areas where you want to simulate natural wear and tear. Focus on the corners of the furniture particularly.
Paint over the wax and base coat with the topcoat of paint. Apply two thin coats of paint, allowing the first coat to dry to the touch before applying the second. Let the final coat of paint dry overnight.
Hold a scrub sponge firmly in one hand. Rub the corners of the furniture in the spots where paste wax was applied. This will remove the top layer of paint and reveal the base color underneath.
