How to Remove Stains From Scotchgard Furniture

Spills happen. Dropped food, tipped glasses, muddy feet and pet stains are all part of life's little happenings. The key is to keep these accidents from ruining the furniture they touch. Furniture protected by Scotchgard--a variety of products by 3M designed to make upholstery, fabric and carpet stain resistant--will repel liquid and block stains, according to the 3M website. This allows protected furniture to be maintained with a gentle cleaning you can do yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up any solid debris which might remain on the stain area. Gently scrape the area with the side of a spoon. Do not apply pressure as this can harm the fabric fibers.

    • 2

Blot any liquid that remains with a clean towel or paper towel. Get the area as dry as possible.

    • 3

Mix 1/4 tsp. clear dish detergent with 1 cup water. Stir well until detergent is dissolved completely.

    • 4

Apply the mixture to a clean white towel to the point of dampness.

    • 5

Blot the area of the stain with the mixture dampened cloth until the stain area becomes damp. Do not saturate.

    • 6

Wipe the area gently with the damp cloth until the stain begins to disappear.

    • 7

Dampen a clean white towel with tepid water and rinse the cleaned area. Do not saturate.
