How to Update a Sofa

Updating your sofa does not mean you have to replace it with a new one. Whether you want an update to a traditional, themed or modern style, you can achieve this look with a little creativity. There are many ways to alter the appearance of your existing sofa. You can change it by adding a blanket to the back, covering the cushions or adding throw pillows.

      Select an updated slipcover for your outdated sofa. Choose a slipcover that complements the rest of the room.

      Slide the slipcover over the sofa and smooth it out. Tuck the excess fabric between the sides, back and seat cushions for a seamless cover.

      Use upholstery pins to secure the back of the slipcover at each end to keep it tight and streamlined.

      Select throw pillows to add a bit of color, texture or pattern to the couch for visual interest.

      Arrange the pillows on the sofa either across the back seat cushion or in sets of three in each back corner diagonally from the back to the arm.
