How to Repair Cat Scratches in Natuzzi Leather

Prepare the Natuzzi leather item for repair by adding a dime-sized drop of leather cleaner onto a soft, clean cloth. Wipe the entire leather surface with the leather cleaner to remove dirt, deep oil or other ground-in substances that may keep the filler from properly sticking. Along with helping the filler to stick well to the leather, cleaning will also eliminate the possibility of dirt grinding and further scratching the leather with the sandpaper.

Cut away all loose leather fibers sticking up from the cat scratches with small cuticle scissors. This will cause the scratches to be much smoother and neater, allowing the leather repair to appear flawless.

Sand the cat scratches with a piece of 320-grit sandpaper to remove loose and small pieces of leather remaining on the surface of the Natuzzi furniture. Use a finer piece of sandpaper, such as 1200-grit, to sand and smooth the edges of the cat scratches.

Clean the sanded area with the leather cleaner and cloth again to remove all the sanding grit and dust from the cat scratch. Allow the Natuzzi leather to air-dry for one to two hours or until leather is completely dry.

Fill the cat scratches in with leather filler using a small palette knife. Allow the leather filler to set for five minutes before sanding the filled scratches with the 1200-grit sandpaper to level the filler even with the surrounding Natuzzi leather.

Dip a small, clean sponge into leather colorant that matches the color of the Natuzzi leather. Apply the colorant to the leather using the sponge in a smooth and even application that covers the filled scratches.

Allow the first coat of leather colorant to dry for up to two hours, depending upon the surrounding temperature and humidity conditions within the room or workspace.

Apply a second coat of matching leather colorant to the Natuzzi leather with the sponge.

Spray a protective lacquer onto the Natuzzi leather to seal the color and protect the leather from future damage.
