Smoke may not ruin your leather couch, but it can make the couch unsightly and unpleasant. Although removing the tarry, smoky film and the resulting unpleasant odor from a leather couch can be time-consuming, a fresh-smelling, attractive piece of furniture is well worth the effort. Dampen a soft cloth with white, household vinegar. The cloth should be moist, but not soaking wet.

Wipe the vinegar over the surface of your leather couch. Allow the couch to dry overnight. As the leather dries, the vinegar smell will eventually dissipate.

Repeat the vinegar treatment as many times as necessary to remove the smoke film and odor. Follow up by buffing your leather couch with olive oil, cold pressed nut oil, beeswax or a commercial leather conditioner.
