How to Care for Pleather

The term "pleather" is an abbreviated slang for "plastic leather". Pleather is a synthetic material made of polyurethane film. Its advantage over genuine leather is its low cost, about three times less expensive than leather. It also has comparable durability and can mimic the look and feel of real leather. Like leather, pleather must also be cared for and maintained to keep its gloss and softness.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small dab of leather cleaner or mink oil to the back of the pleather furniture with a clean cloth. Allow it to dry to see if it absorbs properly and does not alter the look or feel of the pleather material.

    • 2

Apply small amounts of the leather cleaner or mink oil to a clean cloth and wipe the rest of the pleather piece. Start at one side and work slowly to the other side, allowing some time in between for the leather cleaner or mink oil to absorb. Allow to dry completely.

    • 3

Spray fabric protector over the entire pleather furniture piece. Conservatively coat the pleather furniture with fabric protector and let dry.
