How to Remove Metal Plates on Legs

Metal plates are used to hold furniture legs in place. They are placed on each corner of the bottom of a piece of furniture, such as a chair or sofa, and the furniture leg screws into the metal plate. Removing the metal plate that holds the leg in place is a relatively simple process requiring only a few tools. You can complete this project without assistance in little time.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the piece of furniture upside down. Make sure the bottom of the furniture faces up so that you can work on the legs of the item.

    • 2

Unscrew the legs from the metal plates. Furniture legs that are attached to plates have screw-in tops that are part of the leg. Grasp the furniture leg firmly and turn counterclockwise to unscrew it from the metal plate.

Remove the screws from the metal plate with a screwdriver if you are replacing the metal plates on the furniture. Most plates are connected to the furniture with four screws.
