How to Make a Slate End Table

Slate is a colorful and durable stone that is available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. The stone has a somewhat rustic quality and a visual appearance that suggests the stone is made of thin layers sandwiched together. Slate has been used for centuries as a roofing material and as a stone for entryways and gardens. Today it can also be found in modern kitchens, bathrooms and showers. When coated with a sealer, slate often looks wet and very colorful. Make an end table with slate to create a unique furniture piece for your living room.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a cube-style Parson's table that is 20 inches square. Make sure the table is sturdy and in good repair. These tables have been made for several decades and you can often find them at yard sales for only a few dollars.

    • 2

Paint the table an espresso color using spray paint. Select the paint based on the material of the table. Allow the table 12 hours to dry.

    • 3

Mix a 2-part epoxy glue. Apply a dollop of glue near each corner of the table and in the center of the table top.

    • 4

Center and press one 24-inch slate tile onto the table top. Alternatively, apply four 12-inch slate tiles butted against each other. Allow the epoxy 4 hours to dry before using the table.
