How to Detach a Recliner Handle

Sometimes the only repair you can make to a piece of furniture is a complete replacement of the damaged part. If, for instance, the recliner handle on your favorite chair has broken, there really isn't a way of fixing it other than removing the broken handle and installing a new one. Fortunately, most recliner handles are simple to remove.

      Examine your recliner handle and locate the screws or bolts that secure it to the reclining mechanism. The exact location of these pieces will vary by manufacturer and model. The screws can usually be found either on the face of the recliner handle or at the very bottom of the handle, directly opposite the elongated portion.

      Insert your screwdriver or allen wrench as appropriate into the screwhead and turn counterclockwise to loosen and remove the screw.

      Loosen and remove all the screws in the recliner handle as described in the previous step.

      Pull the recliner handle straight out and off the recliner.
