Position your Howard Miller Taylor clock in the desired location in your living room. Locate the levelers in each lower corner of the clock and adjust them so that the clock is stable. Turn the levelers clockwise to raise the level and counter-clockwise to lower it.
Open the door of the 610-648. Look for the cardboard cover which holds the chime rods in position. Pull down on the lowest of the three diagonally angled pieces of cardboard and the bottom of the vertical back piece. Pull directly downwards to remove the cardboard cover.
Locate the side access panel around the side of the 610-648. Push the small clip on the inside of the clock upwards. This releases the side access panel. Gently push the panel upwards, and then move it towards the inside of the clock. Tilt the panel and pull it out through the frame that surrounded it. Inside, remove the spongy, foam pads which surround the chime hammers. Do not remove the white Styrofoam blocks located underneath the clock face. These can be easily removed after the clock has been operating for around eight hours.
Hook the pendulum onto the piece of metal hanging in front of the chimes. Thread the hook through the triangular, pie-slice opening in the dangling metal. Find the weights, and ensure that the hooks on top of them are tightened by turning them clockwise. Each weight is labeled on the bottom, "left," "right" or "center." Locate the three pulleys in the front of the clock and attach the weights in the relevant positions.
Move the minute hand counter-clockwise to set the time. Do not move the hour hand when setting the time, as this can have a detrimental effect on the clock's mechanisms. Pull the pendulum up to the left and release it to start it swinging when the correct time is set.
Turn the adjustment nut on the underside of the pendulum if the clock runs at the incorrect speed. Turn the adjustment nut to the right if the clock runs to slow and to the left if the clock runs too fast. One complete revolution of the nut represents one to two minutes per day.
