Microfiber Upholstery Cleaning

Microfiber is a polyester fiber commonly used in upholstery. Microfiber couches, sofas and chairs can become soiled over time and may not tolerate some cleaning methods. To ensure you do not damage your microfiber, read the care label thoroughly before attempting to clean the upholstery. The microfiber may have a more delicate fabric backing that requires specific cleaning products.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum the upholstery once a week with the brush attachment of your vacuum. Lift the cushions and vacuum both sides.

    • 2

Sprinkle the upholstery with a thin, even layer of baking soda to absorb any odors in the microfiber. Leave the baking soda on for eight hours, then vacuum it up with the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner.

    • 3

Fill a small bowl with water and add 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid. Dip a sponge in the soapy water and gently scrub any stains on the microfiber in a circular pattern. Let the upholstery air-dry.

    • 4

Brush the microfiber with a fabric brush to restore the nap of the upholstery.
