Clear the floor around where you want to install your futon couch. Assembling the frame in place will be much easier than assembling it elsewhere, then moving the assembled furniture.
Lay down the seat and back of the mattress frame so that the predrilled holes align. This usually means sliding one side of the seat into open arms of the back, or vice versa. Use the included pins and sliders to connect them. This will form the hinge on which the futon folds and unfolds.
Arrange the arms and rails of the futon frame on the floor in a square, approximately where they will sit when the futon is fully assembled.
Connect the two arms of the futon frame by sliding the front rail--also called a stretcher--into position. Bolt the rail in place using the hardware provided. Screw it in position, but don't tighten completely.
Install the rear rail of the frame by connecting it to the two arms as you did the front rail.
Slide the seat and back inside the frame you assembled during steps four and five. Place the sliders on the edges of the seat and back assembly into the grooves in the arms. Make certain the seat is facing downward.
Tighten the bolts connecting the arms and rails to fix the sliders into position.
Attach any additional components, such as a front support rail, handles or cup holders, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
