Uses for Old Pillows

Pillows are stuffed with cotton, polyester or down feathers that make lounging comfortable and even luxurious depending on the pillow. Pillows are manufactured all over the world. They are normally found in many homes and are popular for beds, sofas and even floor accommodations. But they don't remain fluffy forever. Pillows tend to wear out and deform after a long time of use. This is when you can recycle the pillow and use it for something else entirely.
  1. Animal Beds and Toys

    • You can use an old pillow for an animal bed for inside or outside purposes. This way takes the least amount of effort to remake the pillow into a new thing. Just place the old pillow on the ground for pets to get used to and sleep on. If your animal rejects the old pillow, you could donate the old pillow to an animal shelter for abandoned cats and dogs to use for a possible bed. The filling could be used for stuffing to supplement old animal chew toys, too.

    Household Purposes

    • Save the stuffing of all your old pillows and use them for household purposes. You can add stuffing in depleted bean bags, thin pillows and bumpy couch cushions for fluff support. The stuffing could go into old mattresses, too. You can use stuffing for packing and moving material to protect fragile objects. Use old pillows for insulation or multi-purpose cushions for the garden or in the garage when working on your car.

    Arts and Crafts

    • Collect your old pillows and when you have enough you can use them to make a quilt. Tear open the seams and then cut the fabric into squares. Use the padding for the quilt padding. You can make small to large quilts. You can also create pin cushions with the old pillow filling and leftover fabric. All you need is just a fistful of stuffing and a little fabric. You can tie it together or sew it together. Create smaller, artistic pillows out of the stuffing and fabric available, too. Old pillows can also be remade into great purses and little handbags as well.

    Halloween Decor

    • Halloween is the perfect holiday to remake old pillows into costumes and scary decorations. You can add belly padding for pirates or monster costumes. Use old stuffing for the points of witch hats to make them stand on end. Take apart the pillow and turn it into shoulder pads for possible football player costumes. Use the cotton for ghost costumes or tear up the fabric for ragged outfits. Decorate your house with the filling to make spiderwebs.

    Theater and Plays

    • A theater puts on an assortment of shows and plays to the public that exhibit different themes and dramatic stories. Plays generally need different decorations and set designs. Old pillows are incredibly useful for this. The white filling can be used fake snow or clouds amidst a blue sky in the background of a particular scene. You can also use old pillows for props, as you won't have to worry about them getting ruined. You can make costume designs, too.
