Measure from the floor to the ceiling in the room with the tape measure. Make a note of the height on a piece of paper. The height of a standard room is 8 feet.
Subtract 1 3/4 inches from the measurement, making it 7 feet 10 1/4 inches long. Transfer the measurement to a 4-foot by 8-foot sheet of birch plywood and make a cut mark with the pencil. Cut the plywood with the table saw. Repeat this step on a second piece of plywood.
Measure 22 1/2 inches on one of the cut pieces. Cut one 7-foot 10 1/4-inch-long piece to this width.
Measure 14 3/4 inches width on the second cut piece of plywood. Cut one 7-foot 10 1/4-inch-long piece to this measurement. Repeat this step to cut a second 14 3/4-inch-wide piece.
Measure and cut two pieces of plywood 14 3/4 inches wide by 24 inches long from the scrap wood left over from step 3.
Measure and cut seven pieces of plywood that measure 22 1/2 inches wide by 14 inches long for the shelves.
Apply a bead of wood glue to each side of the 22 1/2-inch by 7-foot 10 1/4-inch piece of plywood. Attach a 14 3/4-inch-wide piece on each side with the glue. Secure the plywood together with finish nails using the nail gun.
Apply a bead of wood glue to the bottom section of the book tower. Place one of the 14 3/4-inch-long by 24-inch-wide pieces on the glue and secure with the nail gun. Glue and secure the second 14 3/4-inch-long by 24-inch-wide piece to the top.
Measure each side of the book tower from the top and make a mark every 12 inches.
Apply a bead of wood glue to the short sides of one 22 1/2-inch-wide by 14-inch-long shelf piece. Place the shelf piece on the first set of pencil marks. Secure the shelf with the nail gun. Repeat this step for the remainder of the shelves.
