How to Make a CD Tower

Plenty of music fans continue to favor the CD and its tangible album jacket over the digital counterpart, which is simply a file stored on a computer or digital music player. If you still have a massive collection of CDs gaining dust in a box, or you simply want to organize your music library, building your own CD tower is a practical and inexpensive way to accomplish this task.

Things You'll Need

  • 4, 1x6 cedar boards, 6 feet long
  • Saw
  • Measuring tape
  • Carpenter's pencil
  • 1/4-inch screws
  • 1-inch nails
  • 8 L brackets

Instructions

    • 1

Cut one of the boards into 12, 6-inch pieces. (Alternately, you could have it cut where you purchase the boards.) These will be the shelves in your tower.

    • 2

Lay one of the boards on a flat surface. Attach the two remaining boards to its outside edges using four L brackets spaced evenly at 18-inch intervals on each side. These are the sides of the CD tower. The main frame is now completed.

    • 3

Use your measuring tape and carpenter's pencil to mark off spots every 6 inches up the sides of the tower's frame.

    • 4

Insert the shelves into the tower's frame at each 6-inch interval and hammer into place by driving three nails through the back of the tower into each shelf. You can drive two nails into the side of each shelf for additional support, but it is not essential to do so. Make sure to leave the top and bottom pieces for last.

    • 5

Position the remaining two shelves flush with the top and bottom edges of the frame and nail into place just like you did with the other shelves. The CD tower is now ready to store your music library.
