Measure the height, width and depth of the drawer opening in inches. Subtract 1 inch from the height measurement as well as 1 inch from the width measurement. Subtract 2 to 3 inches from the depth measurement.
Cut two side pieces from 1/2-inch plywood. Make these as long as the depth measurement from Step 1 and rip them so that they are as wide as the height measurement from step one. Take an additional 1/4 inch off the width of each board to accommodate the drawer bottom.
Cut identical front and back pieces from the 3/4-inch lumber. These pieces should be the same width as the side pieces. Subtract 2 inches from the width of the drawer opening and trim the front and back panels to this length.
Cut the front decorative piece from 3/4-inch lumber and make it 1 1/2 times longer and 1 1/2 times wider than the basic front piece. Sand this piece well and add any decorative carving or molding that you desire. Finally, cut a bottom piece from 1/4-inch plywood to the length and width measurements from Step 1.
Lay all of the pieces on a flat surface for assembly. Attach the side pieces to the basic front and back pieces with 1 1/2-inch finishing nails. Turn this frame over and apply wood glue all around the edges; lay the bottom piece into place and press the edges into the glue.
Wipe away excess glue all the way around the bottom with a rag. Add three to four finishing nails along each edge of the bottom to secure the piece well. Let the basic box dry 1 to 2 hours.
Apply wood glue to the basic front piece. Center the decorative front piece over the glue and press it into place. Clean up any glue that squeezes out with the rag.
Sink two 1 1/4-inch wood screws into the decorative front piece from behind, through the basic front piece. Install the screws the same distance from and on either side of the center point of the drawer front. Let the glue dry completely and install your chosen drawer hardware.
Turn the drawer upside down and follow the directions on the track kit to install the first part of the track to the bottom edges of the drawer. Install the second part of the track to the edges of the drawer opening. Slide the drawer into the opening to check the fit and paint or stain the finished drawer as desired.
