How to Fix Squeaking Recliner Rockers

Spending more time in that big, over-stuffed recliner? You know, the one that's more comfortable than it is chic. If you've been using your recliner heavily, you may have noticed some squeaking sounds. The most likely culprits are loose connection points or dry springs or hinges. Correcting these is quick, cheap and something you can easily do yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Tarp
  • Wrench
  • Replacement screws or bolts
  • Mechanical lubricant

Instructions

    • 1

Open the recliner fully using the hand lever. Lay a tarp down to protect your carpet or flooring. Turn the recliner upside down -- get some help -- onto the tarp so the underside is accessible.

    • 2

Look over the framework of the recliner for loose screws or bolts. Tighten these using a wrench. Replace any that are rusted or otherwise damaged.

    • 3

Apply mechanical lubricant to the recliner sprints and two-part hinges. Do not over-spray the lubricant or it may stain the upholstery or later drip onto your floor. Turn the recliner back over; sit in the chair and rock gently to check that the squeaking is gone.
