How to Apply Upholstery Strips

For example, you will need cardboard tack strips. The job of these strips is to help pull the fabric into place and keep it there. However, it's not the only thing you will need.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the fabric over the furniture you're working with. Fabric should be about three to four inches bigger all the way around than the section of furniture.

    • 2

Pull the fabric, so that it comes over the cording on the furniture. It needs to come over it at least 0.5 inches.

    • 3

Put the cardboard tack strip over the fabric just below the cording. Push upward or downward, depending on which portion you're working with, so that the strip is against the cording.

    • 4

Apply staples diagonally all along the cardboard tack strip to keep it and your fabric in place against the furniture.
