How to Fix a Recliner Chair Footrest

Some form of reclining chairs have been in existence for well over a hundred years. There are few things more relaxing at the end of a hard day of work than kicking back in a recliner and resting. However, if the foot rest on the recliner is malfunctioning, the chair can cause more frustration than relaxation. The most common problem with a foot rest on a recliner is that over time and with use it can loosen and must be re-secured.

Instructions

    • 1

Extend the recliner and flip it over to gain access to the underside of the foot rest. Notice the bracket that connects to the foot rest and evaluate whether the screws can be tightened or if the screw holes are stripped and require replacement screws.

    • 2

Tighten the screws using the proper type of screwdriver. If the screws do not tighten, remove them completely.

    • 3

Replace the old screws that would not tighten with slightly longer wood screws. Do not use too long of a screw or you may drive the screw out the top of the foot rest. The longer screw will insert into solid wood and hold the foot rest more securely. Secure the foot rest bracket with the new screws and ensure they are snug. Turn the chair upright.
