How to Clean Furniture With Synthetic Suede

Synthetic suede, sometimes referred to as microsuede or microfiber, is a popular upholstery fabric, usually used to cover sofas, lounge chairs and chair cushions. Synthetic suede is more stain resistant than many upholstery fabrics, and it doesn't collect as much pet hair. When stains are absorbed, synthetic suede can be somewhat daunting to clean. Moisture may leave stubborn water marks, so all spills should be taken care of as soon as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up liquids with a dry rag or towel.

    • 2

Remove any cushions, and vacuum the sofa or chair base to remove debris.

    • 3

Dampen a washcloth, apply a small amount of mild dish detergent to the cloth, and work the soap into a lather. Wring out the cloth thoroughly.

    • 4

Scrub the stain in circular motions with the soapy washcloth, then dry the fabric with a clean cloth.

    • 5

Apply a small amount of gentle laundry detergent to a clean cloth, and work it into the fabric, if the stain persists. You may need to repeat the process several times to draw out the stain completely.

    • 6

Rub the spot with a dry cloth or gently brush it, if the synthetic suede remains stiff after it dries.
