Sectional Furniture Ideas

Sectional furniture allows you to maximize available space and provide additional seating. Whether you choose a traditional sectional with an arm on each end or one of the popular sectionals with a chaise on one end, options are plenty. Choose a floor model or have a sectional customized to fit your home. It may take longer to bring the customized sofa into your home, but the ability to design your own piece is well worth the wait.
  1. Modern

    • Modern sectionals promote clean straight lines and often incorporate polished metal in their designs. Look for sleek versions with white or black leather. Other fabrics include tufted velvet, shiny vinyl and charcoal denim among others. Chaise options vary from blockish square designs to rounded out circular edges that jut out at the end of the sofa. Depending on the style you wish to convey, minimalist armless versions of sectionals are available as well. Consider your daily usage as well as the style to bring home a sectional that is both visually appealing and functional.

    Country Chic

    • For a fresh country chic look, choose a sectional with bold stripes or a pattern like gingham. Oversized pillow-top sectionals work well for this design scheme. If you can't find a pattern to suit your tastes, look for a neutral sectional with arms on both ends and place a collection of throw pillow with motifs like roosters, vintage floral patterns and botanicals. Or, update an old sectional with a stark white slipcover and dress it with throw pillows in white linen with pops of pale blues and lavenders.

    Eclectic

    • Look to pattern and color to create a focal point with your sectional. Thumb through sample books of fabric options to find a sectional sofa that will pull your design together. Either begin with the sofa pattern and develop your room around the eclectic pattern, or analyze existing decor and accessories to help you develop a color scheme. For instance, if you have rummaged and shopped and sourced a collection of pieces with teal, chocolate and cream tones, choose a graphic print with pops of cream and teal, or go for a houndstooth pattern in chocolate and cover it with sapphire and teal throw pillows.

    Other Ideas

    • Take the sectional theme from your living space into the kitchen. Look for wooden bench sectionals for a corner in your kitchen to create a breakfast nook. Pair it with a small kitchen table and one or two accent chairs for a quirky spot to sip your tea in the morning. Or, design a banquette-style sectional for your kitchen or dining area. Banquette seating requires little space (no space required behind chairs) and offers valuable extra seating options for large families or for anyone who loves to entertain. Situate your banquette sectional around a window for optimal views and light.
