How to Break Up a Sectional Sofa

A sectional sofa provides a comforting, coordinated environment with at least two pieces of a single large sofa that connect, typically with one part being a bit larger than the other. They take up quite a bit of room, but can be separated to create a different look or to save space by allowing more versatility with the room arrangement. You need to detach the male and female couplers from each other to separate the sofa into individual parts.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up on one end of the sectional sofa where it connects to the other piece at the bracket, usually located approximately 6 inches off the ground. One half of the coupling bracket is on each piece -- one facing up, the other down.

    • 2

Lift up on the end of the main piece of the sectional at the joint. Pull the end piece away from the other while it is lifted up. Pull the pieces a minimum of 4 inches apart before setting the side down to prevent connector scratching or collision.

    • 3

Rearrange your room how you see fit. You can place the pieces close together with a stand in between them, put them on opposite sides of the room or even place each section in a separate room.

    • 4

Slide the pieces close together, then lift up on one end and slide the male coupler into the female coupler in the same way you separated the two pieces to re-form your sectional.
