How to Fix Dog Scratches on Leather Furniture That Are Just on the Top Layer of the Leather

If a dog treat or toy gets lost between the cushions of your leather couch or chair, your canine friend might dig between the cushions to retrieve it. This can cause the claws of your pooch to scuff or scratch the surface of leather furniture. But don't despair, your couch is not beyond repair. There are a number of products that can be used to recondition leather furniture and diminish the appearance of dog scratches on just the top layer of the leather.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe a thin layer of leather-recoloring balm over the scratched areas. This balm should be adequate to disguise shallow scratches, even if they expose some fabric beneath the surface leather.

    • 2

Buff away the excess leather-recoloring balm in a smooth circular motion, using a chamois cloth.

    • 3

Spray a light coating of orange or olive oil on the surface of the couch. This will reduce the contrast between the damaged and nondamaged areas of the couch, and it can help keep the leather supple. Wipe away the excess oil with another chamois cloth using a straight sweeping motion.
