How to Sew a Loose Button on a Recliner

Recliners are perfect for lounging around on game day or taking quick naps after work and, even though they may be comfy, they are often stylish, decorative additions to living rooms as well. When a recliner button falls off of the cushion, it diminishes the stylistic quality of the furniture. But owners do not need to replace the entire cushion or recliner. Instead, they can simply stitch the loose button back into place.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread an embroidery needle with heavy-duty thread. If you cannot find heavy-duty thread, then use two or three threads in your embroidery needle as once; the extra thread will add more reinforcement. Knot the ends of the thread.

    • 2

Stick the needle into the fabric of the recliner where the button was; there should be an indentation in the cushion or some loose thread to indicate the precise location. Pull the needle through until the knot catches and tug a little to make sure that the knot holds. If the knot slips out, it is too small and you should start over and make the knot larger.

    • 3

Loop the needle and thread through the hook on the bottom of the shank button. Slide the button down the thread and to the cushion. Make a stitchin the cushion again, then put the needle through the shank button once more.

    • 4

Wrap the needle and thread through the button hook a few more times to fortify the button to the cushion. Continue to stitch the cushion to the button until you begin to run out of thread. Then, stick the needle only through the cushion fabric and knot it. Cut any excess thread.
