Push the sectional several feet away from the wall or window so you can access its back. Locate the latches that connect the different sections together, which usually are at the turns in the seating arrangement, such as its middle.
Inspect the latches to determine their type, since they vary with design according to the type of sectional. Latches usually connect by lifting and dropping the corner of the section into the latch, or by sliding the pieces together.
Assign a helper to hold one sectional of the seating arrangement in place to keep it from moving. Depending on the type of latch, lift the adjacent section if one side of the latch system drops into the other, or pull the section free if it is connected by sliding it on the latch.
Insert your fingers between the back and arms of the recliner from the rear and locate the levers on each side that join the back to the base. Lift the levers upward to loosen the bond. Firmly hold the sides of the seat back and pull it straight up so it slides out of the clips. Set aside this back piece.
Carefully flip the recliner over and locate the screws that join the arms to the bottom of the seat. These screws are located along the sides of the seat bottom, toward the front of each arm. Loosen the screws with a screwdriver and set aside the arms.
Pull the metal straps the screws were connected to toward the middle of the recliner’s base. Turn the sofa back over so it rests on its base.
Locate the screws that join the arms to the lower seat back by pulling up on the seat at the front. Loosen the screws with a screwdriver and set them aside. Lift the seat cushion from the frame and set it aside. Remove and set aside the metal straps from along the underside of the seat’s bottom.
Remove the bolts that join the arms to the frame with a wrench turned counterclockwise. Lift the loosened arms from the frame and set them aside.
