How to Arrange a Sectional Sofa Around a Corner Fireplace

Many fireplaces are installed in the middle of the wall. But a corner fireplace is actually more convenient, as it leaves more free wall space to add an entertainment center or other feature in the room with your sectional couch. It also allows you to add another feature to the room without removing the fireplace as the focal point. A corner fireplace can also be cleverly removed as the focal point if it is outdated or no longer appealing.

  Cattycorner the sectional so the area where the two couch sections intersect is facing the corner fireplace on a diagonal line. Facing the sectional this way will force the fireplace to be the focal point of the room.

  Position the sectional so the intersection of the two pieces is in a parallel line, rather than diagonal, to the corner fireplace. Then place another point of interest, such as an entertainment center, on the wall next to the fireplace. Both the fireplace and the entertainment center will become the focal point of the room.

  Place the sectional so its back is facing the corner fireplace. This is an option if your focal point is not the fireplace or the fireplace is unattractive. When placing the sectional this way, make sure the corner of the sectional is pointing on a diagonal line with the corner fireplace. This diagonal line will allow the fireplace to carry some weight in the room, without being the total focus. The wall facing the front of the couch now becomes the focal point. Place an entertainment center, piano or bookshelf there.
