How to Arrange a Living Room With a Grand Piano

A grand piano should be the focal point of the room. To ensure it is the point of interest, you must arrange your furniture around it accordingly. This can be tricky, given the size of a grand piano. In addition to furniture placement, pay attention to your color palette. When decorating around a grand piano, use a neutral color palette with slight bursts of color, so as not to distract from the beauty and grandness of the instrument.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the grand piano in the corner of the longest wall. If the wall contains another focal point, such as a fireplace, place the piano to the side of it. Arrange the piano so that the player is facing or perpendicular to the seating furniture. Make sure the piano's curved side is facing the seating, while its straight edge rests against the wall.

    • 2

Face the couch toward the grand piano. The couch doesn't need to face the piano head on; it can face the curved side of the piano. But the piano player should be able to look to her side and see the front of the couch.

    • 3

Flank additional chairs to the side of the couch. Face the chairs parallel to each other, rather than to the piano. The couch, chairs and piano should together form a rectangle. People can turn the chair to face the piano if needed.

Avoid placing a table in front of the couch, unless you have an extra large living room. With a grand piano, a table will crowd the room. Instead, position two smaller side tables on each side of the couch.
