Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of hardwood, such as oak or maple, to the size that the island counter top will be. Use 3/4-inch thick hardwood.

    • 2

Research and locate a local manufacturer or supplier of stainless steel sheeting. Purchase a sheet of stainless steel with no more than a 14-gauge weight.

    • 3

Ask the local manufacturer if they can cut the size you need or cut the sheet on your own with a plasma cutter or circular saw with a metal cutting blade. Cut the piece to fit the surface of the piece of hardwood.

    • 4

Set the stainless steel sheet on the surface of the piece of hard wood and secure it by lining the edges with 7/8-inch metal edge molding that has a lip and pre-drilled holes for nailing. You will not need to glue or adhere the stainless steel sheet to the wood because the lip on the edge molding holds the stainless steel sheet down and in place. Attach the molding by placing the lip over the edge of the stainless steel sheet and nailing to the side of the hardwood. Mold the entire perimeter.

    • 5

Attach your new stainless steel top to the kitchen island stand or legs.
