How to Choose Dinette Sets

Choosing a dinette set is an important decision to make, but one that many people don't think requires planning. In addition to size, style and height, you'll need a set that works with your entire household. There are hundreds of different styles and sizes, but before you choose a dinette set, you need to figure out what you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the exact amount of open space you have in the kitchen for a dinette set. There are sets available for up to twelve guests or more at the table, but you might only have a limited amount of space. Tables with leaves are another option because the table takes up less space, but can hold more people when the leaves are laid flat.

Average out the number of people who usually sit at your table, but don't include holidays and special occasions. You can rent extra tables or chairs for those events, if needed. Your table should include enough seating for everyone in your immediate family.

    • 3

Choose a dinette table with bench seating if you have a large family and frequently eat dinner together. You can pick a set with one bench and with chairs for additional seating, or you can choose multiple benches. There are some dinette sets that use up to four benches, for maximum seating.

Pick a dinette set based on counter height. Design-wise, your kitchen table should stand the same height as your counters because it gives the space a clean and more organized feel. If the counter and table is the same size, you can also pull the table close to the counter and arrange chairs for more space.

Decide on your style, as well as the style of your family. You might be tempted to purchase an old-fashioned diner set, although your family may need more space and your kitchen is more contemporary in style. You can easily find a style that fits the style of your kitchen and the needs of your family.
