Clean the cabinets to remove all dirt, grease and any other residue that has accumulated. Spray the cabinets with a biodegradable degreaser and use a rag or scrub brush to clean the outside of the cabinets.
Rinse the cabinets by spraying then with water and let them thoroughly dry.
Apply a finish restorer to the cabinets by using a cloth and rubbing in a circular motion. Excess product can be removed by using a clean cloth.
Apply a natural product to maintain a glossy finish on the cabinets, such as linseed oil that has been boiled. Linseed oil will absorb into the wood to help preserve the finish.
Place plastic on the floor and counter tops to protect against dust and dirt.
Take off the cabinet doors by removing the screws from the hinges with a screwdriver.
Remove the hinges from the cabinet doors and then take them into another room or outside to sand them.
Go over the cabinet doors and wall mounted cabinets with a hand-held sander to remove the original finish and expose the bare wood. Clean up the dust before staining the cabinets.
Apply new stain to the cabinets and cabinet doors. Dip a cloth in a can of stain and then wipe it over the exterior of the cabinets and the doors. Remove the excess stain by wiping over the cabinet with a clean cloth.
