Instructions

  1. Restore the Finish

    • 1

Clean the cabinets to remove all dirt, grease and any other residue that has accumulated. Spray the cabinets with a biodegradable degreaser and use a rag or scrub brush to clean the outside of the cabinets.

    • 2

Rinse the cabinets by spraying then with water and let them thoroughly dry.

    • 3

Apply a finish restorer to the cabinets by using a cloth and rubbing in a circular motion. Excess product can be removed by using a clean cloth.

    • 4

Apply a natural product to maintain a glossy finish on the cabinets, such as linseed oil that has been boiled. Linseed oil will absorb into the wood to help preserve the finish.

    Sand and Stain the Cabinets

    • 5

Place plastic on the floor and counter tops to protect against dust and dirt.

    • 6

Take off the cabinet doors by removing the screws from the hinges with a screwdriver.

    • 7

Remove the hinges from the cabinet doors and then take them into another room or outside to sand them.

    • 8

Go over the cabinet doors and wall mounted cabinets with a hand-held sander to remove the original finish and expose the bare wood. Clean up the dust before staining the cabinets.

    • 9

Apply new stain to the cabinets and cabinet doors. Dip a cloth in a can of stain and then wipe it over the exterior of the cabinets and the doors. Remove the excess stain by wiping over the cabinet with a clean cloth.
