Sand the dowels and board lengths with 120-grit sand paper.
Wipe the sanding dust off of the wooden components with a damp cloth.
Apply wood stain to the dowels and side boards by painting the stain onto them with a paintbrush, waiting five minutes and then wiping the stain off of the wood with a clean cloth. Allow the stain to dry for 30 minutes.
Drill nine holes through each side piece with a 3/4-inch drill bit installed in a drill. The holes start at 2 inches from the left end and are spaced 4 inches apart from the center of each hole with 2 inches remaining at the right end.
Insert the nine dowels through the holes in the side pieces so that the ends of the dowels are flush against the outside of the side boards.
Nail one 1 1/2-inch brad through the top of the side boards into each dowel with a hammer.
Apply three coats of polyurethane to the assembled rack by painting the polyurethane onto the wood surface with a paintbrush and waiting 30 minutes between coats.
Screw one eye bolt, 4 inches from each corner, into the wood sides, with the eyes at the top of the rack.
Attach 18-inch-long chains to each of the eye bolts.
Hang 10 S hooks from the dowels to hang your pots and pans on.
