Instructions

  1. Building a Simple Kitchen Table

    • 1

Cut the legs of the tables from the 2 by 2 wood. Each leg should measure 35 inches long.

    • 2

Cut the table top from the 3/4-inch-thick piece of wood. The top of the table should measure 3 feet wide by 4 feet long.

    • 3

Attach an L-shaped bracket to the top of each leg with screws. Take care to ensure the top of the bracket is flush with the top of the leg. Repeat this step until all of the legs have an L-shaped bracket attached to two adjoining sides of the leg.

    • 4

Place a blanket on the floor and set the table top on the blanket with the top side touching the blanket. The blanket helps to prevent scratching the table top while the table is being assembled.

    • 5

Measure 1 1/4 inches in from the edge of the table top at each corner and mark. This is where the legs will be positioned to allow for a little overhang of the tabletop.

    • 6

Position the legs with the marks. Make sure that the L-shaped brackets are facing towards the center of the table top.

    • 7

Secure the leg to the table top with 1/2-inch screws and secure the loose side of the L-shaped bracket table top. Repeat this step until all of the legs have been attached to the table and all of the L-shaped brackets secured.

    • 8

Turn the table over onto the legs and sand the entire surface of the table until all sharp edges are smoothed out.

    • 9

Stain or paint the table and let dry for at least 12 hours. Once the paint is cured, the table can be used. If the table was stained it is recommended to put a coat of varnish over the stain for water protection. Once the varnish is applied, let the table stand for another 12 hours before moving.
