How to Adjust the Concealed Hinges on a Euro Cabinet

As moisture is brought into a room, wooden cabinet doors have a tendency to expand and contract. Most concealed European hinges consist of a hinge and a corresponding hinge plate. The hinge plate is attached to the cabinet side, and the hinge snaps onto the plate.

Open the cabinet door and locate the hinges attached to the door and the cabinet box. Most doors have two hinges; tall and oversize doors may have more. Remove any items near the hinge that will interfere with adjustment. (You must be able to insert a screwdriver into the hinge.) Identify each of the three adjustment screws.

    • 2

Turn the adjustment screw located in the very rear of the hinge to pull the door in or away from the cabinet. If your doors need to sit closer or farther away from the cabinet, insert a screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise to push the door away from the cabinet box. Turn the screw counterclockwise to pull the door closer to the the cabinet. (This will eliminate gaps when viewing the side of the cabinet.)

    • 3

Adjust the door from left to right by turning the alignment screw located on the long shaft of the hinge. This adjustment will allow for an even seam when the two doors come together. Rotating the screw clockwise will push the door farther away from the hinge in a horizontally; rotating the screw counterclockwise will pull the door closer to the hinge.

Adjust the vertical movement of the door using the cam adjustment screw on the hinge plate. Locate the screw inside the square hole on the long shaft of the hinge. (The hole is just large enough to insert a screwdriver.) Turn the screw clockwise to move the door up (vertically). Turn the screw counterclockwise to move the door down (vertically).

Close the cabinet doors and inspect all seams for uniformity.
