How to Mount Undermount Drawer Slides

The drawer slide is the mechanism that allows the drawer to be pulled out from the cabinet. Undermount drawer slides are not visible when the drawer is opened. Because they're mounted under the drawer, undermount slides allow you to install a wider, more spacious drawer than with a traditional side-mount drawer slide.

Instructions

Determine the length of drawer slide you will need by measuring the depth of the drawer box with a tape measure. Drawer slides typically are 1 inch shorter than the drawer box is deep.

    • 2

Install the release lever on the bottom of the drawer box using the 5/8-inch screws. Mount the lever so that you are drilling the screws into the drawer box front. There is a left and right release plate.

    • 3

Mark where the undermount drawer slide will be installed in the interior of the cabinet. The slide should be mounted to the bottom of the stretcher in the cabinet. Mark a line from the front to the back of the cabinet using a level. Repeat these steps on the opposite side of the cabinet.

Position the undermount drawer slides into position inside the cabinet. Screw the drawer slides to the cabinet with 5/8-inch screws using a power drill. Repeat these steps on the opposite side of the cabinet.

Slide the drawer into the cabinet. Do not force the drawer, as it may damage the undermount drawer slide. Make sure the slide attaches to the release clips on the drawer box. If adjustment needs to be made, remove the release clips from the bottom of the drawer and adjust accordingly.
