Measure and cut the two sides of the bread box from the pine wood. These should measure 10 inches high and 11 inches deep.
Measure and cut the base and back of the breadbox. The base should measure 18 inches wide and 11 inches deep. The back of the bread box should measure 9 1/2 inches high and 18 inches wide.
Cut the sections for the lid. The top section of the lid should measure 17 inches wide and 10 1/2 inches deep. The front section should measure 17 inches wide by 9 inches tall.
Attach the back of the bread box to the base. Use wood glue to attach the back side of the box to the top edge of the base. This will create an L-shaped structure that measures 11 inches deep by 10 inches high, and 18 inches wide.
Glue the sides to the base and back sections of the bread box. Line the sides up to the back corner and apply wood glue around the base and back edges. Gently press on each side to create a box structure.
Nail the base, back, and sides together. Use small finishing nails to strengthen the bond between the structure sections. Space nails every 2 inches along the edges.
Assemble the lid. Take the top section of the lid and turn it bottom-up. Apply a thin line of wood glue to the top edge, and gently press the front section of the lid onto the wood glue.
Nail the lid parts together. Place finishing nails along the top edge of the lid every two inches. This will create a L-shaped structure that measures 10 1/2 inches deep, 9 1/2 inches high, and 17 inches deep.
Attach the hinges to the lid. Along the back edge of the top section of the lid, which measures 10 1/2 inches by 17 inches, attach two small hinges, spaced one inch from each corner. Attach the hinges to base structure, 1/2-inch below the top edge of the back. This will create an interior lid that is set in 1/2-inch on the top and front of the base structure.
Attach the handle. Measure and mark the center of the front section of the lid, and drill a hole. This should be placed 2-inches above the base. Attach the handle.
