Instructions

  1. Pre-treat

    • 1

Pre-treat the block before using it. Apply mineral oil liberally to the butcher block with a clean, soft rag. Let the oil sink in.

    • 2

Repeat applications until the block is no longer absorbing oil.

    • 3

Wipe excess oil from the block using a fresh cloth.

    • 4

      Allow to dry before use.

    Cleaning

    • 5

Remove all food particles from the board.

    • 6

Wash with a clean sponge and mild soapy water, scrubbing lightly if necessary to remove stuck-on food.

    • 7

      Rinse with a clean sponge.

    • 8

Disinfect with a light solution of vinegar and water if necessary.

    • 9

Wipe down the butcher block and dry thoroughly. Do not allow water to stand on the board.

    Apply Oil

    • 10

Slightly warm the mineral oil in the microwave or a sink of warm water.

    • 11

Using a clean sponge or cloth, wipe the oil onto the block in the direction of the wood grain.

    • 12

Allow 45 minutes to a couple hours for the oil to soak in.

    • 13

Repeat oil application until the wood no longer absorbs oil. Remove any excess with a clean cloth or paper towels.

    • 14

Allow the wood to dry overnight before using it again.
