How to Measure and Put on Cupboard Door Handles

Adding handles to your cabinets will add a custom look. Handles can be attached to the doors and drawers of your cabinets. Most pre-manufactured cabinets and furniture do not come with handles, so the homeowner must install them himself. Handles allow the doors and drawers to be opened easier. Installing handles can be accomplished yourself in a small amount of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location of the handles on the doors. Make sure the handles are user-friendly. Most handles are mounted on the bottom of upper cabinets and on the top of base cabinets. Handles on drawer fronts should be mounted in the center.

    • 2

Place a piece of masking tape on the door and drawers where the holes need to be drilled. This will allow you to make marks on the tape and not on the cabinet finish.

    • 3

Measure the width of the handles from mounting hole to mounting hole using a tape measure.

    • 4

Measure the width of the mounting holes on the cabinet doors. Make a cross on the masking tape where the holes need to be drilled.

    • 5

Drill 1/8-inch holes through the door using a power drill and a drill bit.

    • 6

Remove the masking tape from the cabinet door.

    • 7

Place the screws through the door from the back side. Thread them into the handle and tighten the screws using a screwdriver.
