How to Hang Kitchen Cabinet Doors

If your kitchen décor needs an upgrade or your cabinets are looking a bit worn, hanging new cabinet doors can give the whole room a quick facelift. While new cabinets are a major investment, cabinet doors are relatively inexpensive and do not require a professional for installation. If you have rudimentary woodworking skills, you can perform this task on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the doors to be installed on a table. Identify the side of the doors where the hinges will be attached. Measure down 3 inches from the top of that side and draw a horizontal line with the pencil. This is where the top of your top hinge will rest.

    • 2

Measure 3 inches from the bottom of the side you marked in Step 1. Draw a horizontal line with your pencil. This is where the bottom of your bottom hinge will rest.

    • 3

Hold the top hinge in place on the side of the door you marked. Make sure that the top of the hinge is aligned with the line you drew in Step 1. Draw a circle through each of the screw holes to mark where you will install the screws.

    • 4

Hold the bottom hinge in place on the same side. Make sure the bottom of the hinge is aligned with the line you drew in Step 2. Draw a circle through each of the screw holes.

    • 5

Drill holes through the circles you have marked. If your screws are 3/8-inch, drill the holes just a little larger than that.

    • 6

Attach the top hinges by screwing in the screws through the holes of the hinge onto the cabinet door. Make sure the top of the hinges are lined up with the line you drew in Step 1.

    • 7

Line up the bottom hinge with the line you drew in Step 2. Screw in the bottom hinge of each door tightly.

    • 8

Hold the door up against the cabinet. Use a level to ensure that the top of the door is level. Make a mark through the holes where the hinges will be screwed onto the cabinet.

    • 9

Drill through the holes you made on the cabinet. This is where you are going to attach the other half of the hinges.

    • 10

Screw the top hinge of the cabinet door into the holes you just drilled. Tighten the screws and then screw in the bottom hinge.

    • 11

Repeat the process for the other cabinet doors until all are mounted onto the cabinets. Use a level to ensure all of the doors are even with one another.
