How Do I Build a Potato Bin?

Potatoes are a popular staple food in many areas around the world. The root of the plant is the edible potato. These roots are still living up until the time they are prepared for cooking. Potatoes must be kept in a dark, well-ventilated space to prevent the fragile roots from rotting or becoming damaged before you are ready to cook them. A potato storage bin can be made as complex as you want, or, as simple as it needs to be.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a series of ½ inch holes in the back and bottom of the trash can. Space the holes at 2-inch intervals to provide sufficient ventilation.

    • 2

Place two bricks on the floor, parallel to each other and spaced 8 inches apart. Place the trash can onto the bricks. Slide the bricks toward the side edges of the trash can.

    • 3

Place four bricks inside the trash can. Arrange the bricks so that they weigh down the corners of the trash can and hold it onto the support bricks.

    • 4

Add potatoes to the bin and set the top into place. Rotate your stock weekly. Rotate the potatoes when adding new stock to the bin.
