Instructions for Putting Together a Microwave Cart

A microwave cart provides the benefit of clearing off a huge chunk of your countertop by giving the microwave its own space. Some models offer much needed additional storage space, with an extra shelf or drawers. Microwave carts usually come ready to assemble. Most, such as the Sauder utility cart described here, come with casters for mobility.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two side pieces on the floor and install the hidden cams, or screws on a dowel, which come with the cart. The side pieces will have pre-drilled holes in the bottom and middle. Use a regular screwdriver to tighten these cams into the bottom holes.

    • 2

Place the top piece on the floor, unfinished surface up and unfinished edge to the front. Insert the side pieces, placing the cams into place. Make sure the unfinished edge of the side pieces is facing front.

    • 3

Position the long narrow skirt pieces in place, on either edge of the top piece, between the side pieces. The skirt piece nearest you should have the unfinished side out, the one on the other side should have the unfinished side facing in, so you can see it from where you are sitting. Both pieces should have their finished edges showing. Using long screws and a phillips head screwdriver, screw to the side pieces.

    • 4

Position the angle brackets at the center of the skirt pieces, on the side of the skirt closest to the edge of the top piece. Using small screws, screw into place, attaching the skirt piece to the top of the unit.

    • 5

Position the shelf midway, at the pre-drilled hole location. Make certain the unfinished edge faces the front and the unfinished surface faces up. Use long screws to attach the shelf to the side pieces.

    • 6

Position the casters on the bottom piece on the unfinished surface side. Screw into place leaving one screw hole open on each caster, in order to attach the bottom piece to the rest of the unit.

    • 7

Attach the bottom piece to the unit, screwing into place with long screws. Make certain the unfinished edge faces front.

    • 8

Flip the cart right side up and cover the screw holes with the provided hardware. Secure these covers with the hammer.
